GeForce GTX 1630 vs GeForce GTX 550 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 has a clock frequency of 1740 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also uses a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It is made up of 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, which has core clock speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1026 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 192 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 24 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 116 Watts
Difference: 41 Watts (55%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce GTX 550 Ti should in theory be a bit superior to the GeForce GTX 1630 overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 98496 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 192 (0%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1630 should be a lot (about 93%) better at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 28800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 26880 (93%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 1630 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 21600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6240 (29%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
