GeForce 8800 Ultra vs GeForce GTX 1630

Intro

The GeForce 8800 Ultra features a core clock speed of 612 MHz and a GDDR3 memory speed of 1080 MHz. It also uses a 384-bit bus, and uses a 90 nm design. It features 128 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the GeForce GTX 1630, which comes with GPU clock speed of 1740 MHz, and 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM set to run at 1500 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 512 Stream Processors, 32 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

GeForce 8800 Ultra 171 Watts
Difference: 96 Watts (128%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce 8800 Ultra should theoretically be just a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 1630 in general. (explain)

GeForce 8800 Ultra 103680 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 5376 (5%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1630 will be much (about 42%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce 8800 Ultra. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 8800 Ultra 39168 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 16512 (42%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 1630 is superior to the GeForce 8800 Ultra, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 8800 Ultra 14688 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 13152 (90%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
