Compare any two graphics cards:
Radeon HD 5830 vs Radeon HD 6790
IntroThe Radeon HD 5830 features core clock speeds of 800 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 1120(224x5) SPUs along with 56 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.Compare that to the Radeon HD 6790, which comes with core speeds of 840 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 800 SPUs along with 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.
Display Graphs
Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthIn theory, the Radeon HD 6790 is 5% faster than the Radeon HD 5830 in general, due to its greater data rate. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 5830 should be much (about 33%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6790. (explain)
Pixel RateIf running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6790 is the winner, though only just barely. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.

both of these cards have more or less the same perfomance, butt the 6790 have a more recent chips, and supports direct eyefinity multidisplay connection from 1 card, with no need for eyefitity adaptor, have the minidisplay adaptors included!this adaptor/hub for the hd5xxx series cost about 80 100 dollars and is not 4 sale yet, coming next year, any of these cards will outperform the 550ti+!or spent some more and go for a 6850/6870!69xx are still expensive!new hd6xxx supports 3d tecnology, but is not the same as seen on geforce series!!!and please people,STOP WITH THE NVIDIA/ATI WAR!!!ITS THE SAME WITH INTEL/AMD!BOTH GOOD CHIPS MAKERS,I PREFERE AMD/ati,because they are cheaper, and there motherboards and cpu`s can be upgraded easy, not like intel were a new lga-775 cpu does manytimes not fit a board lga-775 with more then 2 years!update bios/cpu code and some times it will work!please before you buy a board/card,look at sites like this one http://www.hwcompare.com and compare/look at benchmarks ect,and google/surf for the best price!!!cheers from ska portugal

Hey there, according to this Alex is right. That is if you are gaming on the 5830 which is what card I have. He was right that it is a better card slightly than the 6790. The blu-ray playback and youtube hd scores were lower, but who cares since even a low end card can play blu-ray. Maybe a graphics editor would care? Pretty close though, but for games 5830 better and cheaper

5830 = 6790 (fps), because of TDP and OpenGL 6790 win.
