GeForce GT 340 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 340 features clock speeds of 550 MHz on the GPU, and 850 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 96 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which comes with GPU clock speed of 650 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 50 Watts
GeForce GT 340 69 Watts
Difference: 19 Watts (38%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB should in theory be just a bit superior to the GeForce GT 340 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 64000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 340 54400 MB/sec
Difference: 9600 (18%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GT 340 is just a bit (about 13%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB. (explain)

GeForce GT 340 17600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 2000 (13%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB is just a bit (more or less 18%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 340, and will be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 340 4400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 800 (18%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
