GeForce GTX 660 144192 MB/sec
Difference: 9408 (7%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 660 will be much (more or less 42%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 7850. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 78400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7850 55040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 23360 (42%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 7850 is a small bit (approximately 17%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GTX 660, and capable of handling higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 7850 27520 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 660 23520 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4000 (17%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.

Can anyone ans is texal rate so important?

burakgon says:

I have a 7850 OC. That's dumb. 660 is much and much better! Even for linux.

jim says:

660 or 7850 oc...

jovancecar says:

is amd better on 1680 X 1080

eng_borek says:

as an engineer i'd say all those tests are more or less biased.

from a sticktly technical point of view hd7850 should be a much more powerful card

it's not only about the gpu /memory clocks

hd 7850 is much more customizable and OC-efficient.

lewis says:

I have the 660 and my friend has the 7850, when we compared frames on games such as bf3 and wow (using same processor) the 660 came out on top by about 5 fps

Joshua A. says:

I think the saddest part about this benchmark is, AMD's 7850 is $100 cheaper.

Zhao says:

gtx 660 is in stock better than the 7850 in stock clock, but when it comes to overclocking, the 7850 has a little advantage overall. Still nvidia has physx built in 🙂

Evans Young says:

i won the gtx 660 evga for the win signature 2 edition and its blazing fast.
