Radeon HD 3690/3830 vs Radeon R7 M265

Intro

The Radeon HD 3690/3830 features core clock speeds of 668 MHz on the GPU, and 828 MHz on the 256 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 320(64x5) SPUs as well as 16 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R7 M265, which features a GPU core clock speed of 725 MHz, and 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM running at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 384 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Radeon R7 M265 32000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 26496 MB/sec
Difference: 5504 (21%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R7 M265 will be a lot (more or less 63%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 3690/3830. (explain)

Radeon R7 M265 17400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6712 (63%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 3690/3830 is superior to the Radeon R7 M265, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 M265 5800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4888 (84%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
