GeForce GTX 860M vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 860M features a GPU core speed of 797 MHz, and the 4096 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 1152 SPUs, 96 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which comes with GPU core speed of 650 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 860M 45 Watts
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 50 Watts
Difference: 5 Watts (11%)

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have exactly the same memory bandwidth, so theoretically they should have the same performance. (explain)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 860M should be quite a bit (approximately 390%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 860M 76512 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 60912 (390%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 860M should be a lot (more or less 145%) faster with regards to AA than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, and also will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 860M 12752 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 7552 (145%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
