Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) vs Radeon HD 6750

Intro

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a frequency of 1000 MHz on this model. It features 480 SPUs as well as 24 TAUs and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6750, which comes with clock speeds of 725 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 720 SPUs as well as 36 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 63 Watts
Radeon HD 6750 86 Watts
Difference: 23 Watts (37%)

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have exactly the same bandwidth, so in theory they should have identical performance. (explain)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6750 is much (about 36%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 6750 26100 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6900 (36%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6750 is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 6750 11600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5200 (81%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
