Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 590 vs Geforce GTX 680
IntroThe GeForce GTX 590 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 607 MHz. The GDDR5 memory runs at a speed of 855 MHz on this specific model. It features 512 SPUs along with 64 TAUs and 48 ROPs.Compare all of that to the Geforce GTX 680, which uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1006 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1502 MHz on this particular card. It features 1536 SPUs along with 128 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthTheoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 590 should perform much faster than the Geforce GTX 680 in general. (explain)
Texel RateThe Geforce GTX 680 should be much (approximately 66%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 590. (explain)
Pixel RateIf running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 590 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. One or more cards in this comparison are multi-core. This means that their bandwidth, texel and pixel rates are theoretically doubled - this does not mean the card will actually perform twice as fast, but only that it should in theory be able to. Actual game benchmarks will give a more accurate idea of what it's capable of. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.

3 Responses to “GeForce GTX 590 vs Geforce GTX 680”The Texel Rate calculation is incorrect for the GTX 590 as it does not incorporate the Dual GPU factor.

lol, i checked this on every website, and gtx 590 wins the 680 in every single thing regarding gaming. It's obvious a 900$ card is better than a 600$ one. You're just jealous and apparently poor.
