Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon R9 M265X

Intro

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB comes with core speeds of 800 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 Texture Address Units and 8 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon R9 M265X, which comes with GPU core speed of 575 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1125 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 640 Stream Processors, 40 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon R9 M265X is 13% quicker than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB overall, due to its greater bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon R9 M265X 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 8000 (13%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M265X will be a bit (approximately 20%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon R9 M265X 23000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3800 (20%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 M265X is quite a bit (more or less 44%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB, and able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon R9 M265X 9200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2800 (44%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
