Geforce GTX 760 vs Radeon RX 5500

Intro

The Geforce GTX 760 comes with clock speeds of 980 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 1152 SPUs as well as 96 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5500, which features core speeds of 1670 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 1408 SPUs as well as 88 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5500 150 Watts
Geforce GTX 760 170 Watts
Difference: 20 Watts (13%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 5500 should theoretically be a small bit better than the Geforce GTX 760 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 229376 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 760 192256 MB/sec
Difference: 37120 (19%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5500 is much (about 56%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Geforce GTX 760. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 146960 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 760 94080 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 52880 (56%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5500 should be quite a bit (about 70%) more effective at FSAA than the Geforce GTX 760, and also will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 53440 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 760 31360 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 22080 (70%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
